Traffic Jam In Delhi Due To Waterlogging After Rain; IMD Says, More Showers Likely

Delhi is grappling with significant weather disruptions today, September 12, following early morning rain that has led to widespread waterlogging and traffic issues across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi, indicating the potential for major traffic disruptions and adverse weather conditions.

According to the IMD, Delhi can expect moderate to heavy rain throughout the day, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The sky is anticipated to remain generally cloudy, contributing to a subdued atmosphere. The temperatures today are notably below the seasonal average, with the maximum expected to reach only 23 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 26.81 degrees Celsius. This is a departure from the usual temperature range for this time of year, with forecasts initially suggesting a maximum temperature closer to 30 degrees Celsius.

Areas such as Green Park, Indira Gandhi International Airport, South Extension, and Minto Bridge have reported significant rainfall this morning, exacerbating traffic problems and complicating commutes for many residents. As the day progresses, the ongoing weather conditions are likely to continue impacting daily life, with further disruptions expected.

Moderate rain in Delhi has caused significant waterlogging and traffic congestion, particularly on Rohtak Road in both directions from Nangloi to Tikri Border. The Delhi Traffic Police have advised commuters to avoid the Mundka area and seek alternative routes.

On Wednesday, similar rain-related issues were reported across various parts of the city, with waterlogging and traffic jams affecting daily life. The IMD’s forecast warns of continued major traffic disruptions today, potential power outages, and possible damage to vulnerable structures. Over the past 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Wednesday, the city recorded 6 mm of rainfall, with an additional 2.4 mm between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.

Looking ahead, the IMD expects weather conditions to improve by September 13, with light rains and clearer skies anticipated by September 15.

In neighboring Uttar Pradesh, heavy rains caused by a depression in Madhya Pradesh have led to severe conditions in Mathura and surrounding districts. The IMD has issued a red alert for Mathura and orange alerts for other affected areas.
