Noel Tata, aged 67, is the son of Naval Tata from his second marriage and has been closely associated with the Tata Group for many years. He has played a key role in the governance of Tata Trusts, serving as a trustee on the boards of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust.

Tata Trusts, comprising the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, has been a driving force in philanthropy across India, with a focus on poverty alleviation, healthcare, and education. Noel Tata’s appointment is expected to continue the legacy of impactful philanthropy set by Ratan Tata.

Noel Tata holds several significant positions within the Tata Group. He is the vice-chairman of Titan and Tata Steel, as well as the chairman of Trent, which owns retail chains Zudio and Westside, and Tata Investment Corporation. Additionally, he serves on the board of Voltas and has been the managing director of Tata International, the group’s global arm, since 2010. His leadership roles within the group have long fueled speculation that he was being groomed to succeed Ratan Tata.

An alumnus of Sussex University in the UK and INSEAD in France, Noel Tata started his career at Nestlé UK before joining the Tata Group. His diverse business experience and leadership have earned him a respected position in the Indian corporate world.

Noel Tata, an Irish citizen, is married to Aloo Mistry, the daughter of the late Pallonji Mistry, once the largest individual shareholder in Tata Sons. The couple has three children: Leah, Maya, and Neville.

As the new chairman, Noel Tata’s leadership is poised to steer Tata Trusts through its next phase of philanthropy, continuing its commitment to societal development while honoring the enduring legacy of Ratan Tata.
