JD(S) Suspends Prajwal Revanna Over Sex Tape Scandal; SIT Investigation Underway

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and a prominent figure in Karnataka’s political landscape, has been suspended from the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) amidst a scandal involving alleged sex tapes. The decision to suspend Revanna was announced by JD(S) core committee president GT Deve Gowda, who stated, “We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We’ve taken a decision to recommend our party’s national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed.”

The suspension, as clarified by former Karnataka CM and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, will remain in place until the completion of the investigation. The scandal erupted when video clips purportedly depicting Revanna engaging in sexual acts with multiple women, including government employees, surfaced in the Hassan district of Karnataka. In response, the Karnataka government initiated a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter.

Prajwal Revanna, 33, holds significance as the NDA candidate in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency and is closely associated with JD(S), which is a part of the NDA alliance in the state. The controversy took a political turn when HD Kumaraswamy accused Karnataka’s deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar of being behind the scandal and called for his dismissal.

In reaction to the unfolding events, Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed the BJP’s stance favoring a thorough investigation into the matter. “It is very serious, we cannot tolerate it. We want to ask Congress that despite being in power, why hasn’t the government acted yet? Priyanka (Gandhi Vadra) ji should ask their chief minister and deputy chief minister,” said Shah.
