Chennai Techie Commits Suicide Following Public Shaming Over Child’s Accident

Ramya V, an IT professional from Chennai, was found dead at her parents’ home in Karamadai, Coimbatore, on May 19, after an apparent suicide. The tragic incident occurred less than a month after Ramya faced severe public shaming when her eight-month-old child accidentally slipped from her hands and fell from the fourth-floor balcony of their apartment.

The child, fortunately, was rescued unharmed by fellow residents on April 28. However, the incident led to intense scrutiny and humiliation for Ramya, with some media reports suggesting she had intentionally let go of the child. This narrative was perpetuated by local residents who criticized her for perceived negligence and failure as a mother.

According to sources, Ramya had been deeply affected by the accusations and negative attention from news channels and social media. The psychological toll of the public shaming contributed to her state of depression, despite the child being safe.

Ramya and her husband Venkatesh, also an IT professional, had recently traveled to Karamadai to stay with her parents. On May 19, while her parents were attending a function, Ramya was alone at home. Upon their return, they found her unconscious and immediately took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Local police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. Friends and family of Ramya have expressed their grief and highlighted the damaging effects of public shaming and cyberbullying.
