Three terrorists, accused of attacking a police post with a grenade in Gurdaspur, Punjab, were killed in an encounter with police in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, according to sources. The gunfight took place late last night between the suspects and a joint team of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab police. The criminals, identified as Gurwinder Singh, Virendra Singh, and Jasanpreet Singh, opened fire when the police attempted to arrest them. They were injured during the exchange and later died from their wounds. Authorities recovered two AK-series rifles and two Glock pistols from the scene.
Punjab Police confirmed that the three individuals were part of a Pakistan-backed module of the Khalistan Zindabad Force. This terror cell has been linked to grenade attacks on police stations in border areas of Punjab. Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated on X that the encounter occurred in the jurisdiction of Puranpur police station in Pilibhit. He added that the suspects were involved in the grenade attack on a police post in Gurdaspur and that investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire terror network.
Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar praised the “daredevil” operation, highlighting the effective coordination between the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh police forces. Recent attacks on police stations in Punjab, including the Bangar police post in Gurdaspur on Friday, a blast at Islamabad police station in Amritsar on Tuesday, and another explosion outside Bakshiwal police post in Gurdaspur, have raised suspicions about the involvement of Khalistani terrorists. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in these explosions.
