Former actress and Miss India 1993, Namrata Shirodkar, opened up about a personal aspect of her marriage to Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in a candid interview. Known for her roles in Bollywood hits like Vaastav, Pukar, and Kachche Dhaage, Namrata stepped away from the film industry after her marriage to Mahesh in 2005. The couple, who first met on the sets of Vamsi in 2000, had laid down some conditions for each other before tying the knot, one of which was Mahesh’s desire for a ‘non-working wife.’
In the interview with celebrity journalist Prema, Namrata revealed that Mahesh was clear about his expectations regarding her career. “Mahesh was very clear that he wanted a non-working wife. Even if I was working in some office, he would have told me to leave work,” Namrata said. She emphasized that their relationship was built on mutual understanding, with both having certain expectations of each other.
Namrata, who had a successful Bollywood career, made a bold decision to leave the spotlight post-marriage. Reflecting on the changes she had to adapt to, she also shared an interesting condition she set for Mahesh. Coming from Mumbai, where she lived in apartments, Namrata was not used to large houses, and the idea of moving into Mahesh’s spacious bungalow in Hyderabad made her uneasy. As a result, the couple decided to live in an apartment for the first few years after their wedding. “We were very clear that we will live in an apartment first after marriage because I was from Mumbai, and I didn’t know how I would fit into these huge bungalows. I used to get scared, so he moved into an apartment with me,” Namrata revealed.
Namrata and Mahesh’s love story blossomed over time, eventually going public in 2004 before they got married in a traditional Telugu ceremony in Mumbai in 2005. Since then, they have built a strong family life. The couple has two children—son Gautham, born in 2006, and daughter Sitara, born in 2012.
On the professional front, Namrata’s sister, Shilpa Shirodkar, is currently part of Bigg Boss Season 18, making headlines with her stint on the popular reality show.
