Supreme Court Rejects Manish Sisodia’s Curative Petition in Liquor Policy Scam Case

In a significant development, the Supreme Court has dismissed the curative petition filed by former AAP leader and ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, challenging the rejection of his bail plea in the liquor policy scam case. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and SVN Bhatti, ruled that “no case is made out” based on the parameters set in the Rupa Ashok Hurra vs Ashok Hurra case.

The curative pleas sought bail for Sisodia in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam, where he faces charges filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Directorate of Enforcement (ED). Following the Supreme Court’s decision, a Delhi court has extended Sisodia’s judicial custody until March 22, after he was presented before the court upon the expiration of his remand.

This ruling comes after the Supreme Court had previously dismissed Sisodia’s pleas for a review of its October 30 verdict, which denied his bail petitions in the money laundering cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy. Sisodia was initially arrested by the CBI in February 2023 for his alleged involvement in the Delhi excise policy scam. Subsequently, he was arrested by the ED in connection with a money laundering case stemming from the CBI FIR on March 9, 2023, after being interrogated by the probe agency in Tihar Jail.

Sisodia’s resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023.
