Sonia Once Again Elected Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson

On Saturday, the Congress parliamentary party leaders announced the unanimous re-election of Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the party, as the Congress party’s parliamentary chairperson.

During a meeting of party MPs, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge proposed Sonia Gandhi for the position. The proposal was seconded by Tariq Anwar, K. Sudhakaran, and Gaurav Gogoi.

In February, the 76-year-old Sonia Gandhi was elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi informed the party’s top brass that he would make a decision “very soon” after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) unanimously recommended him to assume the role of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi secured victories from both Rae Bareilly constituencies after having lost in Amethi to Smriti Irani in the last elections and having won from Wynand then.
