Severed Finger Found in Ice Cream: DNA Report Identifies Victim, Negligence Case Filed

A severed human finger found in an ice cream cone in Mumbai earlier this month has been identified as belonging to Omkar Pote, an assistant operator manager at Fortune Company, Pune. The shocking discovery led to a negligence case being filed against the company.

The incident dates back to May 11, 2024, when Omkar Pote’s middle finger on his right hand was partially severed while packing ice cream. Coincidentally, the manufacturing date on the ice cream cone containing the finger matches this date.

The incident came to light when 26-year-old Malad resident Orlem Brendan Serrao experienced a disturbing sensation while eating a butterscotch ice cream ordered online by his sister. Upon inspection, he found a human finger inside the ice cream. Serrao, a doctor with an MBBS degree, lodged a complaint on the ice cream company’s Instagram page but received no response. Consequently, he reported the matter to the police.

Initial police investigations confirmed that the foreign object was indeed a human finger, which was then sent for forensic analysis. The DNA report on Thursday confirmed that the finger belonged to Pote.

Mumbai Police have since registered a case of negligence against Fortune Company, responsible for the ice cream’s production. The police noted that Serrao had consumed half of the butterscotch ice cream when he discovered the half-inch long piece of flesh with a nail embedded in it.
