After a prolonged pursuit spanning multiple jurisdictions, Ravi Nagar, known by the alias Ravi Kaana, a notorious gangster hailing from western Uttar Pradesh, along with his girlfriend Kajal Jha, has been apprehended in Thailand. Nagar, a key figure in the scrap trade, had been on the run for an extended period, wanted by the Noida Police for his involvement in various criminal activities.
The arrest follows intense cooperation between the Gautam Buddh Nagar police, Interpol, and authorities abroad. Nagar, 42 years old, faces a litany of charges, including under the stringent Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, stemming from an FIR lodged against him at the Beta 2 police station in Greater Noida earlier this year.
Furthermore, Nagar stands accused in a grievous gang-rape case, with a complaint filed against him at the Noida Sector 39 police station in December 2023.
Designated as the linchpin of illegal operations, Nagar’s extensive criminal network allegedly extended into various illicit activities, with his girlfriend, Kajal Jha, believed to be an active accomplice.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, who have been relentless in their pursuit of Nagar and his associates. Over a dozen members of his gang have been apprehended thus far, and assets estimated to be worth around Rs 200 crore, including factories, offices, and vehicles, have been seized.
Nagar’s modus operandi reportedly involved leveraging criminal influence to secure lucrative contracts within the scrap trade, as well as orchestrating raids on industrial sites to plunder valuable materials. Following their apprehension, Nagar and Jha are set to be extradited to Greater Noida, where they will face due legal proceedings for trial in the pending cases against them in Uttar Pradesh.
