SC Says, It May Consider Interim Bail To Kejriwal In Light Of Polls

On May 3, 2024, a Supreme Court bench stated that, in light of the impending Lok Sabha election, it might take into consideration granting Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal temporary bail.

The Delhi Chief Minister had appealed his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the purported Delhi Excise policy scam, and the bench was considering his plea.

Kejriwal is in jail since March in the money laundering case pertaining to the Delhi Liquor policy 2021. His deputy Manish Sisodia is also in jail in the same case. The ED had also arrested Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh. However, he was recently granted bail.

Kejriwal on various occasions has been saying that the ED has not been able to explain to anyone what is the exact nature of the case and it also hasn’t been able to establish the money trail. More importantly, he has alleged that his arrest has taken place due to the ongoing election campaigning so that he cannot move about and campaign for his party.
