Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won their second match of the French Open men’s doubles badminton event on Sunday. In the final, the top-seeded Indian defeated Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei in straight games. Satwik-Chirag, the 2022 champion, won the tournament’s second final on Sunday with a 21-11, 21-17 victory. The pair put up a fierce fight in the second game, even though they easily won the first. But the Indian duo also prevailed in the second game.
The world No. 1 Indian pair had finished runners-up in the French Open in 2019 before winning the title in 2022.
The Indian team concluded as runners-up at China Masters Super 750 last year and placed second at both Malaysia Super 1000 and India Super 750 this year.
Satwik and Chirag proved to be the lucky ones once again, and their outstanding performance this week only strengthened Head Coach Pullela Gopichand’s prediction that the two would be the favorites to win gold at the Olympics in Paris.
