Veteran Bollywood actress Rekha graced the latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show as a special guest, delighting fans with her anecdotes and charm. The evergreen star took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, sharing insights about her work in the 1979 blockbuster Suhaag.
During the episode, a fan brought up the famous song “O Sheronwali” from the film, where Rekha performed a dandiya sequence alongside Amitabh Bachchan in a temple setting. The fan praised her flawless execution of the Gujarati folk dance, despite being a South Indian. Rekha, known for her wit and elegance, responded with humility and a subtle nod to her co-star.
“Think about this: the personality of the person I was performing dandiya with. I obviously had to do a good job. Even if I didn’t know how to play dandiya, when he stood in front of me, my every move just naturally fell into place,” Rekha quipped, while refraining from directly naming Amitabh Bachchan.
Directed by Manmohan Desai, Suhaag featured an ensemble cast including Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, and Amjad Khan. The film was a massive success, becoming the highest-grossing movie of 1979, according to Box Office India.
Rekha was in high spirits throughout the episode, enjoying the playful acts by the show’s comedians. Krushna Abhishek and Sunil Grover performed a hilarious skit dressed as Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, leaving Rekha in splits. Kiku Sharda added to the fun, appearing as Umrao Jaan, a nod to Rekha’s iconic role. Rekha even joined Krushna, dressed as Amitabh Bachchan, for an impromptu dance, adding to the entertainment.
The episode was a blend of nostalgia and laughter, leaving fans reminiscing about Rekha’s illustrious career and her unmatched screen presence.
