Ranveer Allahbadia Moves Supreme Court Over Multiple FIRs in Obscenity Case

Popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as “BeerBiceps,” has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief against multiple FIRs registered against him across different states over alleged obscene remarks made during a guest appearance on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.

Allahbadia, represented by advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, has petitioned the Supreme Court to consolidate the FIRs filed in various states and sought protection from any coercive action. His plea comes amid growing concerns over a possible move by the Guwahati Police, which has already issued summons to him and other individuals involved in the show.

The controversy erupted after a now-deleted episode of India’s Got Latent featured Allahbadia making a controversial remark about parents and sex. “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” he asked, a statement that triggered laughter from show host Samay Raina and other judges. The clip of the moment quickly went viral, sparking public outrage and legal repercussions.

Following the backlash, Allahbadia posted a video apology, calling his remark a “lapse in judgment.” However, the Guwahati Police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Samay Raina and all judges on the show, including Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the FIR, stating that the accused were charged with promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has taken stringent action by registering an FIR against over 30 individuals associated with India’s Got Latent. Authorities have instructed the show’s creators to remove all episodes from social media platforms. “A case has been filed against all those involved from the first episode to episode six. The process of sending notices has begun, and statements will be recorded soon,” an official stated.

In addition, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Allahbadia, Raina, and others over the usage of ‘derogatory’ remarks on the show. The panel has called on them to appear before the commission on February 17 at its Delhi office, expressing serious concern over the vulgar content.

Samay Raina, who is currently in Seattle for a pre-scheduled tour, has been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Department and Mumbai Police. He has requested an extension to comply with the summons, citing his international travel commitments.

The case has sparked a wider debate on content moderation and accountability in India’s digital entertainment space. While the YouTubers face legal scrutiny, the controversy has also raised questions about the boundaries of humor and free speech in online content creation.
