Ranbir Kapoor has revealed exciting details about the future of his blockbuster film Animal, confirming it as a three-part franchise. Speaking to Deadline during the Red Sea Film Festival, the actor disclosed plans for the sequel, titled Animal Park, which is expected to begin filming in 2027.
Kapoor shared that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has ambitious ideas for the franchise, hinting at significant developments in the storyline. “He just kind of flirted with what he wants to do with the movie. It wants to make it over three parts. The second part is called Animal Park. We have been sharing ideas from the first film itself and how we want to take this story forward. It is very exciting because now I get to play two characters – the antagonist and the protagonist,” said Kapoor.
Released in December 2023, Animal emerged as a massive box office success, raking in over ₹900 crores. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, the film delves into the toxic dynamics of a father-son relationship. Kapoor’s character, Vijay, is portrayed as an anti-hero who resorts to extreme violence to protect his father, played by Anil Kapoor. The gripping storyline captivated audiences but also sparked controversy, with some critics labeling the film “toxic” and “misogynistic.”
Despite the backlash, the franchise’s future looks promising, with fans eagerly awaiting the sequel. In addition to Animal Park, Kapoor is busy with other high-profile projects, including Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, where he stars alongside Sai Pallavi. Kapoor is also set to feature in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, sharing the screen with Vicky Kaushal and Alia Bhatt.
As Kapoor and Vanga collaborate to expand the Animal universe, the anticipation for the next chapter of this gritty saga continues to build.
