Pak Javelin Throw Winner Arshad Nadeem’s Reaction to Father-in-Law’s Gift

Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s javelin throw star who made history by winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, recently shared a humorous take on a unique gift he received from his father-in-law. After his historic victory, Nadeem was presented with a buffalo, a gesture that left him both amused and surprised.

In an interview with ARY News, the 27-year-old athlete quipped about the unusual gift: “I could have been given five acres of land instead of a buffalo. But then I thought, okay fine, he gave me a buffalo, and that’s also nice.” Nadeem revealed that he was initially taken aback by the choice, especially considering his father-in-law’s considerable wealth.

Nadeem’s wife informed him of the gift after hearing about it through various interviews. He expressed his surprise, saying, “By God’s grace, he is so rich, and he gave a buffalo?”

Alongside the buffalo, Nadeem received a cheque for PKR 100 million in recognition of his achievement. He has also been honored with Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz. Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a cash prize of PKR 150 million for Nadeem.

Nadeem made history by securing Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal in an individual Olympic event. His record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters not only clinched the gold but also surpassed Andreas Thorkildsen’s previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters. He further cemented his place in the record books with a final throw of 91.79 meters. In the same event, India’s Neeraj Chopra, unable to defend his gold, finished second with a throw of 89.45 meters, managing only one valid throw out of five attempts to secure the silver medal.
