Mukesh Ambani Purchases Boeing BBJ 737 MAX 9 Worth Rs 1,000 Cr

Mukesh Ambani, India’s wealthiest individual, has officially taken delivery of the country’s first Boeing 737 MAX 9, valued at approximately ₹1,000 crore. This ultra-long-range business jet is now the most expensive private aircraft owned by any Indian business tycoon. In addition to this new addition, Reliance Industries maintains a fleet of nine other private jets.

The Boeing 737 MAX 9 arrived in India after extensive modifications and rigorous testing at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg in Switzerland. The aircraft underwent significant cabin modifications and interior upgrades, with testing commencing on April 13, 2023. Before its delivery, it completed six test flights between Basel, Geneva, and London Luton to ensure all features were functioning optimally.

The final leg of its journey from Basel to Delhi took place on August 27, 2024, covering over 6,234 kilometers in approximately nine hours. Upon its arrival in Delhi on August 28, it became one of the most exclusive private jets in the country. Currently, the jet is parked at a maintenance apron near the cargo terminal at Delhi Airport, with plans for it to be relocated to Mumbai, where Reliance’s headquarters are located.

Powered by two CFMI LEAP-1B engines, the Boeing 737 MAX 9 boasts a range of 6,355 nautical miles (11,770 kilometers) in a single flight. While the base price of the aircraft is $118.5 million, this figure excludes the substantial costs associated with cabin retrofitting and modifications, bringing the total expenditure for the Ambani family to over ₹1,000 crore.

    Reliance Industries’ Private Jet Fleet

Mukesh Ambani’s Boeing 737 MAX 9 is just one of ten aircraft in Reliance Industries’ private fleet, which includes an Airbus A319 ACJ in service for over 18 years, as well as two Bombardier Global 5000 jets. The fleet features the high-speed, long-range Bombardier Global 6000, known for its intercontinental travel capability, and the efficient Dassault Falcon 900s.

For shorter trips, Reliance also operates two helicopters: a Dauphin Helicopter, used for quick commutes between offices and sites, and a luxury Sikorsky S76, ensuring comfortable and efficient short-distance travel.
