Manohar Joshi, Former Maharashtra CM And Shiv Sena Leader, Dies At 86

Manohar Joshi, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, passed away in a Mumbai hospital today, two days after going into cardiac arrest. He was 86. Later today, Joshi’s funeral will take place at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park Crematorium.

“On February 21, 2024, Manohar Joshi, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, was admitted to PD Hinduja Hospital. He had a cardiac episode and is very sick. He is getting the best medical care possible while being closely monitored in the intensive care unit right now, the hospital said in a statement on Thursday.

From 1995 to 1999, he led Maharashtra as chief minister, becoming the first member of the Shiv Sena to hold the position after it was split.

Joshi was also elected as a Member of Parliament and was the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004.

He lost his wife in 2020 at the age of 75. He is survived by a son and two daughters.
