Man Attempts Suicide in Front of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice

A man attempted to end his life on the premises of the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday by allegedly slitting his throat with a knife in front of Chief Justice Nilay Vipinchandra Anjaria in Court Hall One.

The man, identified as Srinivas from Mysuru, arrived at Court Hall One and handed over a file to the security staff at the entrance. Before anyone could intervene, he inflicted self-harm in the presence of Chief Justice Anjaria. Security personnel acted swiftly and rushed Srinivas to Bowring Hospital for immediate medical attention, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

A senior police officer commented on the incident, stating, “We don’t know why he took such an extreme step. He entered Court Hall One and slit his throat with a knife. Our security staff deployed inside saw it happen and immediately rescued him. He is hospitalized.” No suicide note was discovered at the scene.

Chief Justice Anjaria expressed grave concern over the security lapse within the high court premises and questioned the authorities about how the man managed to bring a sharp object inside the court. He instructed the police to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident, preserving the knife as evidence.

The contents of the file handed over by Srinivas remain unknown, and the court clarified that it would not examine the documents since they were not presented by a designated advocate. Additionally, the high court emphasized that authorities should not accept any documents without prior court authorization.

Police are currently working to determine the motive behind the suicide attempt and plan to record Srinivas’s statement once he is deemed fit by medical professionals.
