Man Arrested in Delhi for Allegedly Killing Woman 17 Years Ago and Concealing Body in Trunk

In a breakthrough development, the long arm of the law has finally caught up with a 57-year-old man, allegedly responsible for a gruesome murder committed 17 years ago. Identified as Virender Singh hailing from Bihar’s Vaishali district, the accused was apprehended from Rohini by law enforcement authorities.

The chilling incident dates back to 2007 when Singh, then working as a taxi driver in Delhi, purportedly engaged in the flesh trade to supplement his income. Reports suggest that he procured a 22-year-old woman from West Bengal for Rs 10,000, only to brutally end her life in his rented apartment. Shockingly, he then concealed her body in a trunk before fleeing the scene, leaving a trail of mystery and horror behind.

Although the victim’s body was discovered the following day, Singh managed to evade capture, fleeing to West Bengal. Despite his escape, relentless efforts by law enforcement persisted. Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Amit Goel highlighted the unwavering commitment of a dedicated assistant sub-inspector, who tirelessly pursued leads, even after being transferred from the case’s jurisdiction.

Persistence paid off when the ASI, now part of the crime branch, successfully traced Singh to Haryana’s Panipat through meticulous investigation. Subsequent efforts led to the accused’s arrest from the Vijay Vihar area in Rohini.

Narrating the chilling sequence of events, DCP Goel disclosed that Singh, upon committing the heinous act, sought refuge in various locations, including Siliguri, before resuming his alleged involvement in the flesh trade in Ambala and Panipat. Remarkably, he returned to Delhi in 2019, residing in Vijay Vihar under the radar until his recent apprehension.
