Mahua Moitra Skips ED Summons, Goes Campaigning

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra has opted to focus on campaigning in her Krishnanagar constituency rather than comply with a summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED had summoned her for questioning in connection with a Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) contravention case, alongside Dubai-based businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

Moitra, aged 49, affirmed her commitment to campaigning, stating to reporters, “I will be out for campaigning in the Krishnangar constituency in the afternoon.” This decision comes despite being summoned twice previously by the central agency, citing official engagements and requesting deferment.

Renominated by TMC for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal’s Krishnanagar seat, Moitra has faced recent controversies. In December, she was expelled from the Lok Sabha for “unethical conduct.” Additionally, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at her premises in connection with a cash-for-query case following allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. Moitra, however, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
