Lalu Prasad Yadav, Family Granted Bail in Land-for-Job Scam

RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, along with his sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav, was granted bail on Monday by the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with the land-for-job scam. The court also granted bail to six other accused.

Special Judge Vishal Gogne granted bail to all the accused on a bond of Rs 1 lakh each. In his ruling, the judge noted that the accused had not been arrested during the investigation. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 25, 2024.

The bail was granted after the accused appeared in response to a court summons issued earlier. The summons was based on a supplementary charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 6, following an FIR lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The case revolves around alleged Group-D appointments made in the West Central Zone of the Railways, based in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009. According to the ED, the appointments were made in exchange for land parcels transferred to Yadav’s family or associates.

Following the court appearance, Tejashwi Yadav accused the ruling BJP of political conspiracy and claimed victory was inevitable. “They keep indulging in political conspiracies. They misuse agencies. There is nothing concrete in this case. Our victory is certain,” Yadav said.

The ED and CBI have both pursued charges against the RJD leaders, accusing them of exploiting their power for personal gain. However, the Yadav family has consistently denied any wrongdoing, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated.
