The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, along with four others. The charges relate to alleged irregularities during his tenure, including corruption and misuse of authority.

According to the CBI, Ghosh and his associates are accused of involvement in financial mismanagement, favoritism in procurement, and violating government norms. The chargesheet highlights discrepancies in contracts awarded and the handling of college funds, leading to substantial losses to the institution.

The investigation was initiated following complaints of malpractice and demands for accountability from faculty and student groups. Ghosh, who had previously faced criticism for administrative issues at the college, was removed from his position amid mounting allegations.

The chargesheet also names individuals believed to have colluded with Ghosh, including contractors and officials involved in financial dealings. The accused face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The case has stirred controversy in academic and political circles, with calls for stricter oversight of educational institutions. Critics argue that systemic corruption undermines the quality and credibility of public institutions like RG Kar Medical College.
