Khadoor Sahib MP-elect Amritpal Singh’s dentention extended by 1 year

On Wednesday, the National Security Act (NSA) detention of Amritpal Singh, the recently elected MP from Khadoor Sahib, and nine other individuals at Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam was extended for an additional year. Since March of last year, he has been in jail.

Amritpal Singh, the leader of “Waris Punjab De,” and his three associates were scheduled to be released from NSA custody on July 24. Six additional associates were scheduled to be released from NSA custody on June 18.

Amritpal Singh considers separatist leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was killed in the Indian Army’s Operation Blue Star at Golden Temple in 1984, an inspiration.
