Kapil Sharma’s ‘Ma Baap Ki Kabaddi’ Joke Resurfaces Amid Ranveer Allahbadia’s Controversy

Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on India’s Got Latent, an old joke by comedian Kapil Sharma has resurfaced on social media, triggering a fresh debate. The clip, taken from his popular show Comedy Nights with Kapil, has left many netizens divided over its intent and implications.

In the episode, Kapil was discussing the enthusiasm of cricket fans in India, particularly how children are willing to wake up as early as 4 a.m. to catch a live match. He then made a joke, saying, “Cricket ka match shuru hona tha 4 baje, aur phir yeh ma baap ki kabaddi dekh ke so jaate hain” (The match was to begin at 4 a.m., so they watch their parents’ kabaddi and sleep).

As soon as the video resurfaced, social media users were quick to react. While some found the joke inappropriate, others defended the comedian, arguing that his delivery was witty and open to interpretation. One user on Reddit commented, “Kapil is witty and smart. ‘Kabaddi’ could very well mean a fight between the parents. Kapil cracked a joke and left it to the audience’s interpretation. Ranveer, on the other hand, deliberately emphasised an inappropriate joke just to appear cool.”

This debate comes in the wake of Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, facing backlash for his controversial question posed to a contestant on India’s Got Latent. Allahbadia allegedly asked the contestant to choose between watching their parents engage in an intimate act daily for life or participating once to stop it forever. The remark, which many found distasteful, quickly went viral, leading to widespread outrage on social media.

Following the backlash, a police complaint was filed against Ranveer Allahbadia and fellow co-judges Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija. While Ranveer has issued an apology, Samay Raina also released a statement confirming that all episodes of India’s Got Latent had been taken down from YouTube.

The controversy has ignited discussions about the boundaries of humor, with many questioning whether comedians and content creators should exercise greater responsibility in their jokes and remarks. Meanwhile, Kapil Sharma has yet to respond to the resurfaced video, leaving the internet divided on whether his joke was in the same league as Ranveer’s or simply a case of misinterpretation.
