Kanhaiya Kumar Slapped During Campaign in North East Delhi, Two Arrested

In a shocking incident on Friday, Kanhaiya Kumar, the Congress candidate for North East Delhi, was attacked while campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. A video of the assault has gone viral on social media, showing a youth in a black t-shirt slapping Kumar on the pretext of garlanding him.

The incident occurred at a meeting hosted by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Councillor Chhaya Sharma at Swami Subramanium Bhawan, New Usmanpur. As Kanhaiya Kumar was leaving the venue, several individuals approached him to garland him. Amidst the crowd, one youth slapped Kumar, leading to chaos. An individual in the background can be heard saying, “Kanhaiya pitne wala hai” (Kanhaiya is going to be beaten).

Following the attack, ink was thrown at Kumar, and an attempt was made to further assault him. Chhaya Sharma, who tried to intervene, was also threatened and misbehaved with by the attackers.

Kanhaiya Kumar’s team has accused sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manoj Tiwari of orchestrating the attack, claiming that the BJP is fearful of Kumar’s rising popularity in the region.

The Ghaziabad Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident. Legal action has been initiated based on a complaint filed by Chhaya Sharma, who described the sequence of events and highlighted the threats made against her. In a statement, the Congress party condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation. “Such acts of violence are a threat to democracy and must be dealt with severely,” said a party spokesperson
