Ali Bagheri Takes Charge As New Foreign Minister Of Iran Following Hossein Amir-Abdollahian’s Death In Chopper Crash

Iran has announced that Ali Bagheri, Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, has been named as the acting foreign minister following the death of Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in the chopper crash.

Notably, Amir-Abdollahian was travelling in the same chiopper in which Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi died.

According to Iranian media, Iran President Ebrahim Raisi died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in the province of East Azerbaijan. Over a mountainous area, the helicopter carrying Iran’s President Raisi and his Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian vanished.
Iran’s state television reported that there was “no sign” of life among the occupants of the helicopter. “Upon finding the helicopter, there was no sign of the helicopter passengers being alive as of yet,” according to state television.

After a period of increased tensions in the region, especially because of the Gaza conflict and Iran’s recent escalation with Israel, this incident occurred. Having taken office in 2021, President Raisi has repeatedly reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for Palestine in his recent speech to inaugurate a dam.

Videos of the leader inside the helicopter were released on Sunday by Iran’s official media. The footage shows the Iranian president staring out of an airplane window while other high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, are seated across from him.

President Ebrahim Raisi died in a helicopter crash on Monday, and the NATO military alliance sent “condolences” to Iran, according to news agency AFP.

NATO spokesman Farah Daklallah posted on X, the former Twitter, saying, “Our condolences to the people of Iran for the death of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and others who perished in the helicopter crash.” Other nations have also sent their condolences to the people of Iran.
