HC’s “James Bond” Response to Requests for Arvind Kejriwal’s Removal, Says, Will impose Rs 50,000 Fine

Today, the Delhi High Court voiced its dissatisfaction with the numerous petitions filed in an attempt to remove AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal from his position as chief minister following his apprehension.
The court declared that there shouldn’t be any “repeat litigation” after it resolved the matter and determined that it fell under the executive domain because it wasn’t a James Bond film with planned sequels.

Acting Chief Justice Manmohan’s bench drew up petitioner Sandeep Kumar, a former AAP MLA who wanted Kerjiwal removed from office, accusing him of trying to drag the court into a “political thicket” and warned him and said it will impose upon him ₹ 50,000.

Observing that the petitioner was “making a mockery of the system”, the court said, “Rs 50,000 costs on you. We will pass the order.”

On March 28, the court dismissed a public interest lawsuit (PIL) calling for the removal of Arvind Kejriwal. The court stated that although the petitioner had not presented any evidence of a legal barrier preventing the arrested chief minister from holding office, there was no room for judicial intervention in such cases and that it was the responsibility of the other state agencies to investigate the matter.

On April 4, the petitioner was given permission to approach the Lieutenant Governor (LG) after the court declined to consider a second PIL on the matter, stating that it was Mr. Kejriwal’s personal decision to remain as chief minister.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21, hours after the high court refused to grant him impunity from the action of the Enforcement Directorate where he had accused the PMLA agency of targeting Kejriwal deliberately.
