In a bizarre incident that has sparked debates on superstition and mental health, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur has been living as a woman for the past 36 years, claiming that he does so out of fear of a ghost.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly started wearing a saree more than three decades ago. According to him, a spirit had been harassing him, and he feared that if he continued living as a man, his life would be in danger.
He claims that the ghost of his second wife has been tormenting him ever since her demise. “After her death, I had this dream, and her soul is troubling me, which has forced me to live like a woman. Seven of my nine sons have also died,” he said.
The incident has triggered discussions in the village and surrounding areas. While some attribute his actions to mental health issues, others believe in the supernatural aspect of his claim. Many also see this as an instance of deep-rooted superstition and argue that the man needs proper medical advice and treatment.
The case highlights the complex interplay between superstition, psychological well-being, and societal beliefs. It underscores the importance of promoting scientific reasoning and awareness to prevent individuals from making life-altering decisions based on fear and unverified beliefs.
Whether the man truly changed his way of life due to supernatural fears or if this is a manifestation of a psychological condition remains an open question. However, what remains certain is the need for greater awareness, sensitivity, and intervention in such cases to ensure individuals receive the support they need.
