Former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna Faces Fourth FIR for Sexual Harassment

Prajwal Revanna, the former Janata Dal Secular (JDS) Member of Parliament from Hassan, has been booked for sexual harassment in a fourth First Information Report (FIR). The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police has registered this new case against Revanna, who is already facing charges in three other cases of sexual assault.

The latest FIR accuses Revanna, 33, of sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation, and clandestinely recording and sharing images of the survivor. Alongside Revanna, three others—former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Hassan, Preetham Gowda, and associates Kiran and Sharath—have been named in the FIR. According to police sources, Gowda is accused of disseminating images that Revanna allegedly recorded during the sexual harassment of a survivor via a video call.

The survivor reported that the recording and sharing of the harassment clip have caused severe embarrassment and tarnished the reputation of her family. The fourth FIR has been filed under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354(A) (sexual harassment), 354(D) (stalking), 354(B) (using criminal force to disrobe a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), and Section 66 E of the Information Technology Act, which pertains to the violation of privacy.

The first FIR against Revanna was registered on May 1, following accusations from a 44-year-old former Zila Panchayat (ZP) and JDS member. She alleged that Revanna raped her multiple times over the past three years and videotaped the acts. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed this FIR based on her statement.

In the second case, Revanna and his father were booked on April 28 after a woman accused them of sexual harassment. The survivor alleged that Revanna’s father coerced her into having a sexual relationship with Revanna.

The third case involves Satish Babbana, a close aide of Revanna, who is accused of kidnapping a former house help at Revanna’s behest on two occasions. The complainant, Raju, the help’s son, stated that his mother was among several victims seen in alleged sex tapes distributed via pen drives.

As these allegations emerged, Revanna fled India on April 27 but returned from Germany on May 31. He was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody by a Bengaluru court until July 8. The SIT has been granted four-day custody of Revanna in connection with the fourth FIR, and he will be transferred from Parappana Agrahara jail to the SIT office for further investigation.
