Fifth Accused Arrested in Salman Khan Housing Firing Case

Mumbai Crime Branch has apprehended Mohammad Chaudhary, the fifth accused linked to the shooting incident outside Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra. Chaudhary, believed to have aided the shooters with finances and reconnaissance, was captured in Rajasthan.

The Mumbai Crime Branch announced the arrest of Mohammad Chaudhary, the fifth suspect in the Salman Khan housing firing case. Chaudhary allegedly facilitated the two shooters, Sagar Pal and Vicky Gupta, by providing financial assistance and aiding in reconnaissance efforts. He was detained in Rajasthan and is slated to be transported to Mumbai, where he will face legal proceedings.

The shooting, which occurred on April 14, involved two assailants on motorcycles targeting Salman Khan’s residence in the Bandra area of Mumbai. Prior to Chaudhary’s arrest, four individuals, including the aforementioned shooters, had been apprehended in connection with the incident. Notably, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi are identified as wanted suspects by the police.

An unfortunate development in the case involved the demise of one of the arrested suspects, Anuj Thapan, while in Mumbai Police custody. Thapan, accused of supplying firearms and ammunition for the shooting, passed away under disputed circumstances. While the police assert Thapan’s suicide, his family alleges foul play and demands a CBI investigation into his death.

Rita Devi, Thapan’s mother, has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court, alleging her son was subjected to physical assault and torture during police custody. The petition further requests the preservation of CCTV footage from the police station and the lock-up, along with the call data records of the investigating officers. Additionally, the petition seeks a fresh post-mortem examination to shed light on the circumstances of Thapan’s demise.

The police have invoked provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) in connection with the case. Currently, the four remaining accused, including Thapan, are in police custody until May 8, pending further investigation.
