Ex-Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala seeks floor test

Former Deputy Chief Minister and JJP MLA Dushyant Chautala wrote to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, requesting a floor test because the “incumbent government does not command a majority,” two days after three Independent MLAs abandoned the Nayab Singh Saini Government in favor of the Congress.

Chautala has stated that he may suggest President’s rule in the state if the government does not call a session in response to the governor’s directives, while he is still seeking directions from the appropriate authority.

Chautala, requesting the intervention of the Governor, cites Article 174 while citing the numbers as the parties and Independents stand in the House.

He continues by saying that six Independents backed the formation of the Nayab Singh Saini Government. The letter also states that three Independent MLAs have withdrawn their support, one Independent MLA resigned from the House and his resignation was accepted on April 30, and that since the government no longer has the numbers, a floor test is now required.

The opposition has increased the stakes against the ruling party, despite the Saini government’s insistence that there is no immediate threat to it and that “the government will complete its full term”.

In the meantime, the Congress requested time to meet with Governor Dattatreya and demanded that the President rule the state.
