Today marked the public opening of the BAPS Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated last month. A number of visitor guidelines, such as what is permitted and prohibited in terms of attire, as well as guidelines regarding photography, were also published on the temple website.
“Area of the body between neck, elbow, and ankles should be covered. It is not permitted to wear hats, t-shirts, or other clothing items with offensive designs. Don’t dress in clothing that is too tight or translucent. The guidelines advised against wearing items of apparel and accessories that reflect or produce distracting noises”.
Additionally, pets are not permitted inside the temple building. It is not allowed to bring food or beverages from outside onto the temple grounds. Drones are also not allowed anywhere on the grounds of the temple.
The temple will be open from 9 am-8 pm and will be closed for visitors every Monday.
These guidelines are necessary to be followed “to preserve the tranquil ambience and ensure the orderly management of our premises,” the temple authorities said.
The first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, built at a cost of approximately ₹700 crore, is an iconic structure constructed by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) on a 27-acre site in Abu Mureikhah, close to Al Rahba off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway.
