Diljit Dosanjh Opens Up: “Was Sent Away from Home at Age 11 Without Even Consulting”

Diljit Dosanjh, the renowned 40-year-old singer-actor, has revealed intimate details about his upbringing and family dynamics. Hailing from the village of Dosanjh Kalan in Punjab, Diljit disclosed that at the tender age of 11, his parents made the decision to send him away to live with a relative in Ludhiana without consulting him.

Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Diljit, in a recent interview with Ranveer Allahabadia, expressed his feelings of isolation and disconnect from his family. He recounted the challenges of living alone in a small room, devoid of modern amenities such as television and mobile phones. Despite the distance, he maintains a deep respect for his parents, particularly his mother, and acknowledges his father’s quiet acceptance of the situation.

This decision to separate him from his family strained their relationship, leading Diljit to feel disconnected not only from his parents but from everyone around him. However, he credits this experience with shaping his resilience and determination.

From humble beginnings in a Punjab town, Diljit Dosanjh has risen to global prominence with his music and acting career. Currently, he is preparing for the release of his upcoming film, “Amar Singh Chamkila,” where he portrays the role of the legendary Punjabi musician who was tragically killed in 1988. Speaking about the film, Diljit expressed the challenges of unlearning and starting afresh, viewing it as an opportunity for personal growth.

“Amar Singh Chamkila” is slated for release on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, on April 13th, promising to captivate audiences with Diljit’s transformative portrayal and the poignant story of Chamkila’s life and legacy.
