Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health has been a cause for concern as he reportedly continues to lose weight rapidly following his arrest, claimed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party revealed on Wednesday that Kejriwal has shed four kilograms since his detention, prompting worries among doctors about his well-being.
Speaking on the matter, Delhi Minister Atishi expressed grave concerns, stating, “If something happens to Arvind Kejriwal, the whole country, and even God will not forgive them,” in an apparent jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The update on Kejriwal’s health comes just hours before the Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear his plea challenging his arrest and subsequent detention by a trial court.
Kejriwal was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the now-defunct Delhi excise policy for the year 2021-22.
Reports emerging on March 27 highlighted concerns about Kejriwal’s fluctuating blood sugar levels, with a party leader anonymously stating, “CM Arvind Kejriwal’s sugar level is continuously fluctuating and has dropped to 46. Doctors say that it is very dangerous for sugar levels to go so low.”
Addressing his health concerns, Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, disclosed that he has diabetes, but emphasized his determination to remain strong despite irregular sugar levels.
Sources within the Enforcement Directorate assured that Kejriwal’s health was monitored closely during his custody. “We assigned a team to monitor his health and his diet requirements. His sugar level was monitored daily and it was fine with the medical team. He was in good health,” stated a senior officer.
In response to his health condition, reports suggest that Kejriwal, confined in Tihar jail, is permitted to have home-cooked meals for lunch and dinner until his sugar levels stabilize.
Describing his first night in Tihar jail, a prison official revealed that Kejriwal paced restlessly in his 14X8 feet cell, managing only brief periods of sleep.
