Delhi Police Briefly Detain Eatery Owner For Serving Biryani on Plates with Lord Ram Picture

In a recent incident in northwest Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, the Delhi Police briefly detained an eatery owner following a complaint about biryani being served on disposable plates featuring a picture of Lord Ram. According to officials, the detainment was prompted by a call received by the police reporting the use of such plates on Saturday afternoon.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the shopkeeper had purchased a batch of 1000 plates from a factory, out of which only four had the image of Lord Ram printed on them. The shopkeeper claimed ignorance about the depiction and stated that it was unintentional. This assertion was corroborated by both the factory owner and the supplier, who were subsequently questioned by the police.

The police suspect that the plates may have been manufactured using glossy pages from magazines, possibly inadvertently. However, no formal case has been registered as of now, and the matter remains under investigation.

A video circulating on social media captured the interaction between the police, the shopkeeper, and some individuals protesting outside the eatery. The situation was reportedly diffused with assurances of a thorough investigation.

The shopkeeper was detained under sections 107/151 (preventive detention) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) before being released. The plates in question were seized by the authorities for further examination.
