Congress Minister Vikramaditya Singh Resigns Amidst Internal Party Turmoil in Himachal Pradesh

In a significant development, Vikramaditya Singh, the Minister of Public Works Department (PWD) in Himachal Pradesh and a prominent Congress leader, tendered his resignation from his ministerial position on Wednesday. The decision comes on the heels of internal party tensions following the loss of the sole seat to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Rajya Sabha elections on Tuesday.

Addressing the media during a press briefing, Vikramaditya Singh cited the current circumstances as untenable for his continuation within the government. He expressed his decision to step down, stating, “All I would like to say is that under the current circumstances, it is not correct for me to continue as a part of the government.”

Furthermore, Vikramaditya highlighted the perceived lack of acknowledgment by the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu-led government towards his late father, Virbhadra Singh, who served as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh six times. He lamented the absence of a statue of his father at Mall Road, emphasizing the disrespect shown by the current administration. “We are emotional people, we have nothing to do with posts… But this is very unfortunate…I am very hurt, not politically but emotionally,” Vikramaditya remarked.

Responding to queries regarding his future within the Congress party, Vikramaditya indicated that he would engage in consultations with his supporters and well-wishers before charting the way forward. “I am there where I am. In the times to come, I will hold due discussions and deliberations with my people, supporters, and well-wishers. After due discussions, we will take the future course of action,” he stated.
