Brampton Temple Cancels Event Due to Threat of Violent Protests by Khalistani Separatists

The Brampton Triveni Mandir has cancelled a community event scheduled for November 17 following threats of violent protests by Khalistani separatists in Canada. The event, organized in collaboration with the Indian Consulate, was intended to provide life certificates to Sikh and Hindu residents. However, it was called off after Peel Regional Police intelligence indicated an “Extremely High and Imminent Threat Level” of violent demonstrations.

The temple administration stated that they made the decision upon advice from Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah, prioritizing the safety of devotees, visitors, and the general public. They expressed sorrow over the growing sense of insecurity faced by Canadians attending Hindu temples across the country. “We apologise to all community members who were depending on the event. We are deeply saddened that Canadians now feel unsafe coming to Hindu Temples in Canada,” the temple’s statement read.

The situation has raised significant concerns following recent violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton. In October, devotees were attacked outside the temple by Khalistani separatists brandishing the group’s flags and armed with sticks. Video footage of the incident went viral, prompting alarm over the security of religious sites in Canada.

The temple authorities have requested that Peel Police take stronger action to address the threats and safeguard local Hindu temples. Additionally, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has condemned the recent incidents, calling for prosecution of those responsible. “We remain deeply concerned about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada,” the ministry said in a statement.

As tensions persist, local Hindu communities and religious institutions are calling on authorities to ensure that places of worship remain safe for all Canadians.
