Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Cyclone Affected Areas In Assam

Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited his state’s cyclone affected areas on Wednesday to assess the situation following cyclone Remal’s landfall, which resulted in landslides and intense rains, according to officials.

Sarma, who was in the nation’s capital, convened a video conference with high-ranking state government officials and representatives from cyclone-affected districts. In light of the India Meteorological Department’s prediction of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, Sarma directed all parties involved to remain vigilant and promptly address any emergencies.

The chief minister gave district authorities the go-ahead to make every effort to get in touch with the impacted population and offer any support that they can.

In Assam, the aftermath of the cyclone that caused extensive damage has resulted in heavy rains, causing eighteen injuries and four fatalities so far.

According to an official, the chief minister requested that the district commissioners give the victims’ next of kin an immediate ex-gratia payment.

Sarma gave the DCs in districts hit by cyclones instructions to make sure the injured receive prompt medical attention and that the impacted families receive all necessary support.

He instructed the DCs to form distinct teams to handle relief and rehabilitation efforts in anticipation of the Lok Sabha election counting date.

The chief minister instructed senior Assam Power Distribution Company Limited officials to get to work immediately to restore power to all areas affected by cyclones.

He requested that Chief Secretary Ravi Kota to see to it that the DCs of Barpeta, Chirang, and Baksa correspond with their Bhutanese counterparts to give notice in advance in case water from the Kurichhu hydropower plant in the Himalayan nation breaches.
