ASI shot dead, one injured after man opens fire on Delhi flyover

A 44-year-old man went on a shooting rampage on a crowded flyover in northeast Delhi, killing an Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Delhi Police and wounding a bystander with a bullet, according to the police .

He claimed that after the attack, the attacker shot himself dead.

The deceased ASI has been identified as Dinesh Sharma, and Amit Kumar, the injured ASI, is receiving medical attention at GTB hospital.

According to the police, when the incident on Meet Nagar Flyover happened, Sharma was riding his motorcycle. He was assigned to the Delhi Police’s Special Branch.

A police team was dispatched to the scene after the Nand Nagri police station received a police control room (PCR) call about the incident at Meet Nagar Flyover at 11:42 a.m. on Tuesday.

After arriving at the location, Sharma and Kumar were taken to GTB hospital, where the medical staff pronounced Sharma dead.

When the incident happened, Kumar was riding his scooter across the Meet Nagar Flyover when he was hit by a bullet from behind.

The accused, Mukesh, who shot both Sharma and Kumar, forced the driver of the autorickshaw to sit in it against his will, and when the driver resisted, he opened fire, but the driver was able to flee unharmed, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Joy Tirkey.

It appears that Mukesh then shot himself in the head while seated in the autorickshaw’s back passenger seat. GTB Hospital declared him dead. The DCP stated, “He has two wounds on his head, one on the right side and the other on the left side.

“The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained and a case of murder and attempt to murder along with Arms Act is being registered at Jyoti Nagar police station,” the DCP added.
