Popular Telugu actor Allu Arjun appeared before the Chikkadpally police on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the tragic death of a woman during a stampede at the screening of his film Pushpa 2 at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad, on December 4. The incident also left the woman’s eight-year-old son hospitalized.
The actor was summoned to appear at 11 a.m. following a notice issued by the police on Monday, after Police Commissioner CV Anand released a video detailing the sequence of events at the theatre. Accompanied by his father, Allu Aravind, and father-in-law, Kancharla Chandrasekhar, Allu Arjun faced police inquiry at the station.
The 35-year-old deceased woman’s family lodged a complaint, prompting the police to register a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Allu Arjun, listed as Accused No. 11 in the case, was arrested on December 13. However, the Telangana High Court granted him a four-week interim bail on December 14, leading to his release.
Reacting to the summons, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of political vendetta. “The person who threw stones at Allu Arjun’s house is reportedly a close associate of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and a member of the Kodangal Youth Congress,” Poonawalla alleged.
He further suggested that the Congress government is attempting to cancel the actor’s interim bail in retaliation for his refusal to campaign for the party. “This is an act of revenge and vendetta politics,” Poonawalla stated.
