Avalanche Strikes Uttarakhand’s Mana Village, 47 Workers Trapped, 10 Rescued

An avalanche struck near Mana village, Uttarakhand, on Friday, trapping 47 workers who were clearing snow to facilitate army movement. The workers, employed by a private contractor for the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), were working between Mana village and Mana Pass when the disaster occurred. While 10 workers have been rescued and are receiving medical aid, no casualties have been reported so far.

The rescue operation, led by the Indian Army’s IBEX Brigade, is ongoing despite heavy snowfall and minor avalanches in the area. Communication has been challenging due to the lack of satellite phones, and the difficult weather conditions are hindering rescue efforts. Teams from the administration, BRO, ITBP, Garhwal Scouts, and locals are working together to reach the trapped workers, with additional rescue teams on standby.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his concern and prayers for the workers’ safety, while the state disaster relief force and high-altitude rescue teams have been mobilized. The situation remains precarious, with continued snowfall hampering access to the site. The rescue teams are determined to save the remaining workers trapped under the snow.
