7.2 Earthquake Hits China, Strong Tremors Felt In Delhi

Late Monday evening, strong tremors of an earthquake were felt in Delhi and the National Capital Region. A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Xinjiang, a region in southern China. The National Center of Seismology stated that the earthquake happened at a depth of 80 kilometers in a post on X, the former Twitter.

47 people were buried in the massive earthquake in a remote and mountainous area of southwest China.The landslide took place at 5:51 am (2151 GMT Sunday) in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan province, state news agency Xinhua reported, citing local authorities.

According to Chinese media, as many as 14 aftershocks of magnitude 3.0 and above were recorded near the epicentre Wushi County in China’s northwestern region. 

In Kazakhstan, the same earthquake was reported at a magnitude of 6.7. Residents in Kazakhstan’s biggest city, Almaty, gathered outside their houses despite cold weather, some dressed in pajamas and slippers.
