21-Year-Old Woman Stages Own Kidnapping to Fund Foreign Trip

In a shocking turn of events, a 21-year-old woman from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, identified as Kavya Dhakad, has been accused of orchestrating her own kidnapping in an elaborate scheme to extort Rs. 30 lakhs from her father under the pretext of a supposed trip abroad. The Rajasthan Police revealed this unsettling development, shedding light on the intricate plan allegedly devised by the young woman.

Kavya, who had travelled to Kota, Rajasthan, to prepare for an entrance exam, conspired with two friends to stage her disappearance, according to authorities. Despite her whereabouts remaining unknown, investigations have uncovered that she spent merely three days in Kota, residing in a hostel and attending coaching classes before executing her plan.

The distressing ordeal came to light on March 18 when Raghuveer Dhakad, Kavya’s father and a NEET aspirant, filed a complaint with the Kota Police upon his daughter’s alleged abduction. He received alarming photographs purportedly depicting Kavya bound with ropes from the alleged ‘kidnappers’, who demanded a hefty ransom of Rs. 30 lakhs for her safe release.

Screenshots of a purported WhatsApp exchange between Kavya’s father and her ‘captors’ have circulated widely on social media, intensifying public interest in the case. The intervention of Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who engaged with Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma to secure the girl’s safe return, further escalated matters.

During a press conference, Kota SP Amrita Duhan disclosed crucial details of the probe following a breakthrough. It was revealed that Kavya’s last known location was traced back to her hometown of Indore, where she had been residing with two male friends after her brief stint in Kota. SP Duhan elucidated on how Kavya managed to deceive her parents by maintaining communication under the guise of class tests and attendance on behalf of the coaching institute.

One of Kavya’s friends, cooperating with the investigation, divulged that she and another friend concocted the abduction plan in a desperate attempt to flee abroad due to financial constraints. Additionally, it was disclosed that Kavya staged her abduction photoshoot in a mutual friend’s room.

SP Amrita Duhan appealed to Kavya and her friend to report to a nearby police station or contact her worried parents, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
