YouTube Removes ‘India’s Got Latent’ Episode Following Government Intervention

In a significant development, YouTube has taken down the controversial episode of India’s Got Latent, hosted by Samay Raina, after government intervention and a legal complaint. The episode, which featured Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, is now unavailable for viewing in India.

The episode initially aired as members-only content but drew widespread criticism due to controversial remarks made by Ranveer Allahbadia. His inappropriate questions sparked a public outcry, prompting an attempt to edit out the contentious segments. However, YouTube has now removed the entire episode from its platform.

The removal was executed under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2008, which allows the government to restrict online content in the interest of India’s sovereignty, defense, and public order. The directive was issued to both telecom service providers and YouTube, with non-compliance carrying a potential penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment.

Confirming the removal, Kanchan Gupta, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, stated that the episode had been made “unavailable” in India following an official government order.

While Samay Raina has remained silent on the controversy, Ranveer Allahbadia has issued a public apology for his remarks. Addressing the backlash in a video posted on his social media accounts, Allahbadia acknowledged his mistake, stating, “My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry.”

He further added, “Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform, and obviously, this is not how I wish to use it. I am not going to give any context, justification, or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology.” Following the backlash, he has removed all content related to India’s Got Latent from his social media pages, except for his apology video.

Meanwhile, legal troubles continue to mount for the individuals involved. The Guwahati Police have registered an FIR, naming Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and The Rebel Kid Apoorva Makhija. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the development, stating that the case has been registered under multiple sections, including Cyber PS Case No. 03/2025 under sections 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023, along with provisions of the IT Act, Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

The controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent has reignited debates about content moderation, responsible digital behavior, and the role of government in regulating online platforms. With legal proceedings now underway, further developments are expected in this case.
