Within A Week, Another Indian Student In US Found Dead

After his mother reported him missing, Neel Acharya, an Indian student at Purdue University in Indiana, US, was discovered dead on Sunday.
The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office reports that authorities were called to 500 Allison Road in West Lafayette on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in regards to a possible dead body. A “college-aged male” was discovered dead on the Purdue campus upon arrival.

Neel Acharya, a double major in computer science and data science at Purdue University’s John Martinson Honors College, was identified as the student.

On Sunday, Neel’s mother Gaury Acharya, had appealed in a post on X, “Our son Neel Acharya is missing since yesterday Jan 28 (12:30 AM EST) He is studying in Purdue University in the US. He was last seen by the Uber driver who dropped him off in Purdue University. We are looking for any info on him. Please help us if you know anything.”

In response to her post, the Indian Consulate General in Chicago stated, “The Consulate is in communication with both Neel’s family and Purdue University authorities.” Consulate will offer all assistance and support that it can.”

The university’s independent multimedia outlet Purdue Exponent claims that Chris Clifton, the head of the computer science department, emailed faculty and students on Monday to let them know about Neel Acharya’s passing.

Earlier this week, a homeless man in a Lithonia, Georgia, store brutally killed another Indian student Vivek Saini by striking him with a hammer several times.

According to reports, the man attacking Vivek Saini is a homeless man who used to visit the store. According to a person with knowledge of the case, police acted decisively and quickly made arrests based on the case’s visual evidence, according to ANI.


On January 24, Vivek Saini’s remains were returned to his family in India.
