Indian cricket star Virat Kohli showcased his Bengali language skills after receiving a thoughtful gift from Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz following the second Test match in Kanpur. Miraz presented Kohli with a bat from his own company, prompting a warm response from the star batter. “Khoob bhalo achi (it’s very good),” Kohli said with a smile, adding, “Wish you all the best. Keep doing the good work.”
Earlier, Miraz had also gifted a bat to India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, who expressed his delight at the gesture. Rohit shared a special message for Miraz, saying, “I know Mehidy from a long time. He is a very good cricketer, and I am very proud of him for starting his own bat company with his friends. I wish him all the best; may God grant him success, and I hope this company excels.”
In a gesture of goodwill, Kohli had previously gifted his cricket bat to former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, honoring his impressive Test career after the second Test in Kanpur.
Shakib announced that the upcoming series against South Africa will be his last on home soil, if given the opportunity. If not, the series against India will serve as his farewell. “I am available for the South Africa series, but a lot is happening back home, so not everything depends on me,” he said during a pre-match press conference. “I’ve discussed my Test cricket plans with the BCB. I was considering this series as potentially my last.”
He continued, “I have informed [BCB president] Faruque bhai and the selectors. If there’s a chance for me to play, I would like my last Test to be in Mirpur. The board is working to ensure I can play safely and return home without any issues. My primary concern is my safety and security in Bangladesh, as my close friends and family are worried. I hope for improvements, and that a solution can be found.”
