Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Machado has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her 20-year struggle to promote democratic rights and achieve a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy in Venezuela. US President Trump had been a contender for the Nobel Prize for several months, but the Nobel Committee did not select him for the award.
