During the pier operation, US soldiers were injured in the midst of the ongoing Gaza war. Two soldiers suffered minor injuries, and one soldier was seriously hurt. The soldier was taken to a hospital in Israel after suffering severe injuries.

Israel and Palestine are at war since October 2023 and there have been thousands of deaths ever since the war broke out.

The U.S. President Joe Biden announced the pier in March and involved the military to assemble the floating structure off the coast. It is estimated to cost $330 million for the first three months and involve about 1,000 U.S. service members, it came into operation just last week.

U.S. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, the deputy commander of U.S. Central Command, told the media that the two troops had a swollen ankle and a back injury of a minor nature. He said, “Two were very minor, routine wounds. The injured have returned to the duty,” Cooper said.
