Today marks the 36th day of the US government shutdown, which began on October 1st. This is the longest such shutdown in US history. Previously, during President Trump’s first term in 2018, government operations were halted for 35 days. The shutdown has halted food stamp (SNAP) assistance for 42 million Americans.
